Choosing & Joining a Lab

Ensuring that you join a lab that best meets your scientific needs, learning style and personality is one of the most important decisions as a graduate students.

Your Dissertation Advisor

After rotating in three laboratories, students select and declare a dissertation advisor by September of their second year. The student must complete a Dissertation Advisor Declaration Form and submit it to the Immunology Program Administrator. Dissertation labs outside of the Immunology Program, but still within DMS, must be individually discussed with and approved by the Program Head. The dissertation advisor is responsible for financial support of the student’s stipend in years 3 and 4 and the student’s tuition and stipend in year 5 and beyond.
